The volume includes the previously unpublished account of the period of the abduction (91 pages), selections from Fermor's contemporary reports on his work in Crete to military superiors in Cairo (75 pages), and a walking guide to the abduction route (20 pages) and eight pages of photos.
Fermor's account of the abduction is enhanced by his local knowledge from years working clandestinely in Crete, and his fluency in the Greek and German languages that enabled him to communicate directly with his Cretan associates and General Kreipe. The text is highly readable and gives students an eyewitness account of Alfred's kingship: military successes and failures (esp. Without Mounce's CD-Rom companion I recommend saving the money and buying his first edition.
